What is National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in NHS activities. NHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

Lansing Chapter of NHS

Welcome to the Lansing Chapter of the National Honor Society.  Our chapter has a long standing tradition of excellence dating all the way back to 1957 when Lansing inducted its first handful of NHS members to this year's 73 inducted members.  Our members are more than great students, they are ambassadors of academic excellence, service and role models of outstanding character and leadership.  We are more than just an "honor club."  Our chapter members lead by example within the various student organizations and activities at LHS as well as in our community.  Our chapter members plan and organize the fall LHS blood drive, partnering with Community Blood Centers.  Members also volunteer their time for LHS Trunk or Treat, Breakfast with Santa and the PTO Carnival, tutoring students at LHS and in the community, the District Art Show, the LEF Honors Breakfast, and many more.

Our chapter strives to make the Lansing community a better place to live, learn and grow.  We are proud of our member's accomplishments and continue strive to create lasting memories, strong relationships, and positive outcomes for future generations to aspire too.
