Lansing USD469 Strategic Planning Process
Lansing USD469 is excited to partner with Greenbush to implement a 5-Year Strategic Plan. Our first strategic planning meeting was held on Monday, September 19, at Lansing High School. The purpose of the first meeting was to get feedback from our community members on the big ideas we will be focusing on when creating our plan.
To do this, we started with five larger areas of focus:
1. Human Capital (Recruitment and Retention)
2. Student Performance
3. Strategic Plan Formats
4. Accreditation
5. Communication and Family Engagement
The 2022-2025 Lansing USD469 Board Goals were used when choosing these categories. We had a total of 62 people attend the meeting. These 62 individuals consisted of board members, district staff (classified and certified), students, community members, and parents. The following is a breakdown of the different groups of people on the committee:
- Board members: 6
- District staff (not parents): 24
- Staff members who are also parents: 8
- Parent Only (not staff): 7
- Students: 7
- Community Members: 10
The September 19th meeting started with a brief introduction from Executive Director Bart Swartz. Superintendent Dan Wessel then gave a presentation on the state of Lansing USD469.

After Superintendent Wessel's presentation, the attendees were broken out into groups. Each group was assigned a starting room that focused on one of the five larger topics listed above (Human Capital, Student Performance, Strategic Plans, Accreditation, and Communications) and rotated through the other four rooms every 25 minutes. The district had facilitators who drove the discussion and gathered feedback in each room. Thank you to the following facilitators who helped make the day a success:
- Ascendra Donald (Human Capital)
- Brooks Jenkins and Jennifer Kolb (Student Performance)
- Alan Penrose and Martin Altieri (Strategic Plan Format)
- Miles Azzeh (Accreditation)
- Sharon Burns (Communication and Family Engagement)
Documents shared with Strategic Planning Committee at the September 19 meeting:
Once everyone had given feedback in each of the five rooms, they returned to their original room to discuss the big takeaways from the day. The facilitators in each room gathered the information that will be shared with Greenbush to formulate the final big areas of focus for the next Strategic Planning meeting that will be held on January 4, 2023. During that meeting, the groups will focus on specific action steps to carry out the larger goals set by the group.
For those interested, we have shared the information from each room below:
