Lansing Elementary and Intermediate Students Cultivate Libraries with Flower Garden Exchange
First-grade students at Lansing Elementary School and fourth-grade students at Lansing Intermediate School have been busy creating a garden for each other to share in their libraries.
The initiative was inspired by the book 'The Upside Down Gardner' by Chryssa Smith. The book tells the story of a girl who transforms a drab and lifeless space into a beautiful garden. The book emphasizes the importance of imagination, creativity, and hard work and shows how anyone can turn a drab area into a vibrant space.
Lansing USD469 Library Technicians Diane Kelly (LES) and Tina Silva (LIS) helped spearhead the project.
"We started by reading the Upside Down Gardner by Chryssa Smith and moved on to being gardeners!" said Mrs. Kelly.
The project is an excellent example of how books can inspire creativity and encourage students to explore new interests and hobbies.
