STEM Night a Huge Success for Lansing USD469 Thanks to Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. Anderson, Lansing PTA, and Staff Volunteers!
Lansing USD469 held its first-ever STEM Night on Thursday, March 30th, at Lansing Intermediate School. The event, sponsored by Lansing PTA, featured STEM professionals from the community who shared their expertise with students and offered hands-on activities for attendees.
The event was a tremendous success and featured activity tables with virtual reality devices, a data scientist analyst, a propulsion chemist, weather activities, growth mindset activities, paper football, airplanes, and more.
One of the event's highlights was the opportunity for students to engage with professionals in the STEM fields. The professionals shared their knowledge and experience with students, answering questions and offering insights into their respective fields. Students saw firsthand the many exciting opportunities available in STEM and were able to learn about what it takes to pursue a career in these fields. In addition to the hands-on activities and interactions with professionals, there were raffles and prizes.
The event was made possible thanks to the hard work of our STEM educators, Mrs. Suzanne Phillips and Mrs. Meghan Anderson, who organized and coordinated the event. The district would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. Anderson, the Lansing PTA, and staff members who volunteered to help make our STEM Night a success.
STEM Night is just one example of the many initiatives and programs that Lansing USD469 offers to support STEM education.
"Our STEM night was extremely well attended, with approximately four hundred people attending," said Lansing Intermediate School Principal Martin Altieri. "There was a wide variety of activities available, including virtual reality, designing paper airplanes, creating boats and testing their buoyancy, and measuring changes in heart rate based on exercise. It was great seeing families having fun while doing activities and learning about exciting career fields. A huge shout-out goes to Suzanne Phillips, Meghan Anderson, Lansing PTA, and support personnel who made the event possible. Thank you to our LIS and LES families who came to support our school and the PTA. We look forward to making this an annual event."
