Lansing Students Win Big at Special Olympics Unified Bocce Tournament
On March 4, 2023, students from Lansing Middle School, Lansing High School, and the LINCS program came together to compete at the Special Olympics Unified Bocce tournament at Olathe East High School. The event brought together students from across the state.
The Lansing Black Team, consisting of Paytin Beeman, Brielle Hope, Addison Lynch, Christian Meadows, Benjamin Stephens, and Assistant Coach Kaylee Arwine, emerged victorious with a gold medal. The Lansing Red Team, comprising Anthony Brown-Henley, Karl Burland, Keegan Cavinaw, Canyon Meadows, and Declan Nauman, also made the Lansing community proud by earning a silver medal. Coached by Amanda Edwards, Emerald Peters, and special guest coach Ros Fields, the teams showcased their skills and dedication while representing Lansing with pride and passion.
The Unified Bocce tournament is a unique event that brings together individuals with and without intellectual disabilities to play on the same team. It promotes teamwork, friendship, and understanding, all while showcasing the participants' athletic abilities. By competing in this tournament, Lansing students showed commitment to creating a community that celebrates differences and embraces all individuals.
