Lansing USD469 Partners with Local Agencies To Bring Narcotics K-9s to LMS
On Wednesday, March 1st, K9 units from the KCK PD, Bonner Springs PD, and Miami County Sheriff's office visited Lansing Middle School as a preventative strategy to help keep drugs out of the school. The district partnered with these law enforcement agencies in an effort to provide a safe and drug-free environment for students.
The K9 units, consisting of Officer Gardner (KCK PD) and his K-9 Sevende, Deputy Yeast (Miami County Sheriff Office) and his K9 Clay, and Officer Bargerstock (Bonner Springs PD) and his K-9 Ciko, randomly swept all eighth-grade classrooms.
These searches are conducted several times a year in the school buildings to deter students from bringing drugs onto school grounds. It is important to note that the K9 units' visit was requested by the LMS administration as a preventative measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.
We extend our gratitude to our SRO Leif French, Officer Gardner (KCK PD) and his K-9 Sevende, Deputy Yeast (Miami County Sheriff Office) and his K9 Clay, and Officer Bargerstock (Bonner Springs PD) and his K-9 Ciko for their assistance in this operation. Their commitment to keeping our schools safe is greatly appreciated.
Below is the message sent via Skyward from Principal Brooks Jenkins Wednesday afternoon:
Dear Parent/Guardian,
This morning, Lansing Middle School partnered with the Lansing Police Department and Kansas Highway Patrol to bring Narcotics K-9 dogs to the middle school. All classrooms were searched. Students were asked to leave their belongings in the classroom and then were moved to the team area/hallway before the dog was taken into the room to work. This was the reason for the classroom lockout this morning.
We appreciate your support as we continually work to provide a safe, drug free, educational environment for all students.
If you have any questions, please call me at 913-727-1197.
Sincerely,
Brooks Jenkins
Principal, Lansing Middle School
