Lansing Middle School Advanced Students Students Get Real World Exposure Thanks to Guest Speakers
Lansing Middle School students in Mr. Josh Yoakam's Advanced Studies class have been learning about real-world career options thanks to presentations by local professionals. The first presentation was by Lansing graduate and architect for Hollis + Miller, Meg Warner. She met with students to discuss the architect profession and her background after Lansing High School. Hollis + Miller was the architect who built the high school and renovated the middle school, and Ms. Warner also brought the plans from both buildings to share with the class.
"We've been trying to do more career presentations based on student interest," said Mr. Yoakam. "On October 26th, one of my students with an interest in becoming a statistician will be doing a zoom interview with the head statistician for the Philadelphia 76ers."
Mr. Yoakam also has a student interested in aerospace engineering and has tentatively scheduled a STEAM tour/field trip for November. Watch the website for more information about both career presentations!
Great work, Mr. Yoakam, and thank you to Meg Warner for taking the time to meet with our students!
