September 12, 2022 Board of Education Recognition: LMS Student Keegan Cavinaw and LHS Counselor Wes Cackler
Lansing USD469 would like to congratulate Lansing Middle School student Keegan Cavinaw for being our September Board of Education Student of the month and Wes Cackler for being our Staff Member of the month!
Keegan Cavinaw was nominated by two teachers and an administrator at Lansing Middle School for his kindness and character:
Keegan "goes above and beyond to show kindness and befriend students of all ability levels. He shows so much kindness and brings light to our building every day. Keegan is an excellent friend and role model at our school."
"Keegan is a student with outstanding character and spirit. He consistently does everything in his power to genuinely help and befriend two students in the high needs program in his grade. He requested schedule changes to be in their inclusion classes and includes them in all activities in the classroom. Many students his age are uncomfortable around students with disabilities, Keegan has made it his mission to learn about these two students and find ways to treat them equitably. These two students, who are his good friends, are not the exception to the rule. Keegan treats everyone he encounters with kindness, respect, and humor. He genuinely wants to include everyone and befriend everyone he knows and meets. Keegan also gives his best effort daily at school, which is not always easy for him. When presented with challenging work he does not grumble or gripe, he rises to the challenge with a smile and joke. He gives grace and acceptance to everyone he meets. Lansing Middle School and the community of Lansing are a better place because Keegan is in it. I can not think of a more deserving student to receive recognition."
"Keegan is a tremendous asset at LMS. He excels in working with students that have difficulties. He willingly greets students at the door, helps students with their schedule, and also with social needs in navigating situations. He really does a great job with mediating situations between students that get contentious...this is a natural asset that he possesses. He has a great attitude overall and he seems to always look for ways to positively contribute."
Mr. Cackler was recommended by a family and nominated by an administrator for going above and beyond to help our families:
Family nomination - "We would like to nominate Wes Cackler for special recognition. Before our family even arrived in the district we contacted the main office to make sure Lansing was a good fit for our kids. The staff there connected us with Mr. Cackler … and he has been blessing our lives ever since. Since the summer of 2020 Mr. Cackler has been our go to for every question large or small and he has answered every single one promptly, thoughtfully, and happily, always making us feel like a priority although we know he is incredibly busy balancing different roles within the school. He epitomizes lion pride and the students, staff, and families are incredibly lucky to have him on the team."
