Lansing Intermediate Students and Staff Anticipate Hatching of Robin Eggs through Bird Nest Live Stream (LINK IN ARTICLE + VIDEO)
In April, Lansing Intermediate School added a few new members to its family when a pair of robins built their nest in the northeast windowsill and laid four eggs. When the nest, located near the fourth-grade hallway, was discovered by teachers and students, Mrs. Laurie Holden contacted the Lansing USD 469 technology department to get a live stream set up. Thanks to the efforts of our Technology Director Chris Fletcher, who secured a camera that could accommodate live streaming, and our maintenance department, who was able to run a cable through the ceiling, students and staff across our district can now watch the birds care for their nest and hopefully see the eggs hatch soon. The stairwell where the nest is located has since been roped off, so they can have privacy while she cares for her nest and soon-to-be baby birds.
Fourth-graders are now researching robins and recording observations about what they see in the nest and have named the family:
- Dat Bird: Dad
- Apple: Mom
- E: Erin
- G: Gordon
- G: Georgie
- S: Spencer
Mrs. Holden's class also sang "Apple Momma Bird" to the tune of "Apple Bottom Jeans." Watch the video below of the class performing the piece.
