January is Board of Education Recognition Month! Board Member Spotlight: Carla Wiegers
January is School Board Appreciation Month! Please join us as we show appreciation to our school board members for volunteering their time and advocating on behalf of every child in our community. We will be featuring each school board member on the website throughout the month.
Today's spotlight will be on board member Carla Wiegers.
Carla Wiegers is one of our newly elected board members to take office in January 2022. Mrs. Wiegers grew up in Bethalto, Illinois, just on the east side of the Mississippi River near St Louis. After high school, she earned a Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) scholarship and attended Illinois State University, where she was commissioned as an Army second lieutenant, then set out to serve her country and see the world. Mrs. Wiegers holds a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in History. She served as an Army officer for 30 years, serving both active and in the reserves as a signal officer. She is currently a military contractor who supports soldiers in collective training simulation exercises to improve their decision-making skills in mission performance, resource utilization and collaboration across many leadership levels. Mrs. Wiegers is also a substitute teacher for several area school districts.
She and her husband, Steve, moved to the Lansing area in 2005 when their two daughters were starting their school years. She has been a Girl Scout leader for over 16 years, is a current Church Council Chair at Leavenworth First United Methodist, and previously served on the boards of the River City Community Players, Lansing Library, and Friends of the Frontier Army Museum. For Lansing USD 469, she has served on building site councils for twelve years, has been a room parent, and LHS Cross Country, Swim, Music, Speech & Debate parent.
Carla Wiegers is "So grateful for this opportunity to serve our community in a vital way by supporting the process of education as we nurture our children and youth into young adulthood to discover their purpose and live fulfilling lives."
