Lansing USD 469 Second Semester COVID-19 Information (Masks, Test to Stay & Learn, District Case Reporting)
MASKS
The Lansing USD 469 School Board voted and approved making masks optional for students and staff when we return from winter break. As a reminder, passengers in all Lansing USD 469 vehicles must continue to properly wear a mask at all times (order by the CDC and US Department of Health and Human Services). Per the CDC and the US Department of Health and Human Services current order, "Mask means a material covering the nose and mouth of the wearer, excluding face shields".
An exemption to the federal mask order states, "A person for whom wearing a mask would create a risk to workplace health, safety or job duty as determined by the relevant workplace safety guidelines or federal regulations" This exemption would apply to a school bus driver while physically driving the bus. This does not include when the bus is parked or not moving due to loading or unloading students. During these times, the bus driver should be wearing a mask.
TEST TO STAY AND LEARN
The Lansing USD 469 School Board also adopted the Kansas Department of Health and Environment's (KDHE) Test to Stay and Learn Plan #2, Strategy A, which provides optional COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated students/staff who have been close contact with a positive case. As of January 5, 2022, our district has not received the kits to test students and allow a "modified quarantine" for students who have been deemed close contact. Because of this, if your student has been exposed to COVID-19 and is currently quarantined, they cannot return to school until their quarantine is over (see current quarantine and isolation guidelines below). We will notify families as soon as we get an update from KDHE on when to expect the testing kits.
