Lansing High School Partners with University of Saint Mary To Teach Flag Football to Students
Lansing High School Physical Education students learned flag football skills on October 13th and 14th from University of Saint Mary (USM) Head Flag Football Coach Angellica Grayson and USM students Anayah Hooks and Jessye Rowland.
"This is USM's second season, and we are glad to get out in the community this year because, like everyone else, Covid slowed us down a little bit," said Coach Grayson. "We are a Spring sport, and many of my ladies are new this year. We are willing to go where we can spread the gospel of ladies in flag football if time and distance allow us to."
Coach Grayson was happy with how the students performed, and said there are many benefits of learning the sport.
"Students gain the knowledge to train their brain to improve concentration and coordination." She said it also promotes teamwork, being social, and boosts self-confidence.
Coach Grayson is the inaugural head women's flag football coach at USM and previously coached at Summer Creek Middle School in Crowley, Texas. At Summer creek, she was linebacker coach for seventh and eighth-grade football teams and "led their 7th 'A' and 'B' teams to undefeated seasons two years in a row."
This is the first time our high school has partnered with USM to teach flag football skills, and it turned out to be a tremendously successful experience. LHS PE teacher Jackie Sells said the students enjoyed learning the skills from Coach Grayson and her players and loved the competition. She plans on having them back in the Spring to teach students enrolled in the second semester.
