Lansing High School Student Council Learns Leadership Skills in October Retreat (VIDEO)
Lansing High School Student Council members participated in a four-hour retreat on Monday, October 4, 2021, to help inspire them on their class projects for the 2021-2022 school year.
The theme for the event was "I Can Help," and sponsors set up stations to emphasize how student leaders can help each other and their school community by looking out for each other. Superintendent Dan Wessel kicked off the afternoon by talking to the students about what it means to be a good leader and inspiring them to stand up for the things they believe in (see video snippet below). After Mr. Wessel's presentation, students were broken up into groups by grade. Each group visited a station with the following themes:
- Creating a vision statement for your class with Director of Teaching and Learning Miles Azzeh
- How can Social Work help? with Psychologist Jake Hanson
- Brainstorm session with 20 activities and introduction to class projects with Sponsor Maeve Bolin
- Team building activity with Zach Bolin
Once the student council members had made it through each station, they met with their class sponsors to outline possible class projects for the school year and then wrote a letter to another member of the Student Council.
