Lansing USD 469 End of Year Newsletter
May 2021
Lansing USD 469 Family,
As we have reached the end of the 2020-2021 school year, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for your generous support through another unprecedented school year. Our success this year is a result of our team effort and the collective support of one another - from our students, teachers, staff, and parents.
Thank you to our Lansing USD 469 staff who have worked tirelessly to solve the challenges this year has dealt us . We truly have the "best of the best" here in Lansing, and our students are incredibly lucky to have you leading and taking care of them.
I want to take this opportunity to show my appreciation to often over-looked people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our district running smoothly and efficiently - our Transportation, Nutrition Services, Community Relations, Emergency Preparedness, Information Technology, Custodial, and the administrative office team at Lansing District Office.
Our Transportation Department, led by Jim Slapper, and all of our bus drivers have stepped up to not only get our students safely to and from school each day, but also made it possible for us to deliver lunches to our remote students. As a reminder for those families that will be riding the bus next school year, watch for our new enrollment link via the website and Skyward. Click here for this month's Transportation Update from Transportation Director, Jim Slapper.
Jennifer Zule and our outstanding nutrition services team have also went above and beyond this year to keep our students and staff healthy and provided meals to our remote students. Click here to learn more about our Lansing USD 469 Nutrition Services Department.
Through our Community Relations Department, I am proud of the strides we have taken to showcase all the successes of our students and staff. If you do not have the Lansing USD 469 mobile app, I encourage you to download it to stay informed of the happenings in our district. We felt it was important to be as transparent as possible through the pandemic and have worked with Kristen Dilka, our district nurse coordinator, to keep our families and staff informed of all the positive cases reported to us within our district. Starting in August, we will be releasing a monthly newsletter that will highlight each of these district-level departments and major happenings within our district. Click here to view our Communications / Community Relations page.
Our Emergency Preparedness Department, led by Kevin McCarley and supported by our Resource Officer French, has been instrumental in keeping our students and staff safe through drills, a K-9 drug dog walk-through at LHS, and ALICE training. Watch the Emergency Preparedness page for monthly reminders of things you and your family can do to stay safe.
Our Information Technology Department has been busy supporting the students and staff with their IT needs. This time of year is always busy as they handle iPad check-ins and prepare for summer projects and network reconfigurations. Our custodial staff, led by Alan Brandt, have been rock stars this year, working tirelessly to keep our educational facilities clean. Many people don't realize that in addition to cleaning our facilities, they assist in setting up all events that occur in our district - moving tables, providing trash cans, and making sure the event coordinators have everything they need to make the event run smoothly. Thank you to Mike Williams, Charles Kannaday, and Mike Clemens for their work keeping our lawns mowed, fields treated and prepped for events, and upkeep of our facilities. This team of three is in charge of mowing all district-owned property, which is approximately 80 acres. To learn more about our Facility and Grounds Department, click here.
Lastly, I'd like to thank my incredible administrative office team at Lansing District Office. Jan Zoellner, Doniaell Brandt, Christine Motley, Martina Crisp, Amber Bollin, and Emmaly Farr are truly the backbone of our district. From managing the budget, payroll, benefits, training, events, work orders, retirement, to hiring - this group of six handles it all. I encourage everyone to click the links below to meet the people behind the scenes and get a better understanding of the impact they make in our district. These pages will also offer important updates you should be aware of.
I would like to congratulate our graduating seniors and their parents and wish them the best of luck as they transition into the next stages of their lives. To our returning students, I hope you have a restful summer break, and I look forward to seeing you in August.
