Third Grade Remote Learners Have Sixth Community Helper Guest Speaker - Bonnie Lussier from Guidance Center
The remote third grade classes welcomed their sixth visitor in the Community Helpers series on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. Bonnie Lussier joined the class via Zoom to discuss her job as a youth case manager at The Guidance Center. The Guidance Center is a nonprofit agency that serves as our local Community Mental Health Center and offers "a broad array of home and community based behavioral health services, always prioritizing those who are most in need without regard for their ability to pay for care."
Miss Bonnie explained to the classes that in her job she teaches skills to clients age 7 to 21 so they can manage emotions, challenge negative thinking, and improve behavior. She also works with parents to develop skills and follow through on plans to help their children. Her favorite part of the job is working with clients 15 and older to build skills toward independent living, such as cooking, making appointments, and getting a job. Miss Bonnie has a third-grade son in Miss Eilderts' class who was ready to help his mom with technology support throughout the presentation.
There will be one more guest speaker this week, so watch the website for more information.
Thank you to Ms. Eilderts for this article and to Miss Bonnie for visiting with our students!
