Lansing High School Students Have Productive Week at KCKCC Pioneer Career Center
Lansing High School students Tyson Root and Alex Russell were busy in their respective classes at Kansas City Kansas Community College this week.
Tyson Root worked on wiring a furnace in his HVAC class. Students in that course learn about the outdoor condenser connections, furnace connections, and thermostat connections. The thermostat connections are “W”(white wire) for heat, “Y”(yellow wire) for cooling, “G”(green wire) for fan, “Rc”(red wire) for 24 power volt for cooling, “R”(red wire) for 24 power volt for heating, and “C”(blue wire) for common.
Alex worked on wiring a switch, installing a light, wiring a ceiling fan, and wiring an outlet in his Electrical class. Wiring a switch entails wiring the hot wire to the light, hot wire to the switch, and the ground wire.
As a reminder, KCKCC Pioneer Career Center offers the following TEC programs to high school students in the area (Leavenworth, Lansing, Tonganoxie, Pleasant Ridge):
- Construction
- Culinary
- Electrical
- HVAC
They also offer CNA, criminal justice classes, cybersecurity, and regular academic classes for high school students.
We regularly feature our Lansing High School students enrolled in these programs via this website, so watch for updates!
