Thursday, March 4th and Friday, March 5th To Be Remote Learning Days
Hello Lansing USD 469 Parents and Guardians,
The majority of our Lansing USD 469 staff will be receiving the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine next Wednesday, March 3rd. I have been in contact with neighboring districts whose staff has received the second dose to get feedback on how many experienced side effects that kept them from working the rest of the week. Due to the feedback I received and the potential of widespread side effects, I have made the difficult decision to move Thursday, March 4th to a remote learning day. Friday, March 5th will remain a normal remote Friday, and your student’s building will reach out to you with more information about what both days of learning will look like in the near future.
I do not take losing any in-person days lightly, but have to take into account not just teachers being out sick, but also our support staff (nutrition services employees, secretaries, custodians, and bus drivers). I felt it was important to get out in front of this and avoid having to scramble to call off school due to a lack of employees.
We will be delivering lunches on Thursday and Friday to everyone that signed up to receive them on Friday. All Lansing Preschool and Early Childhood classes will be cancelled those days. Lansing Daycare and Y-Care will remain open.
As I stated in my message a few weeks ago, we are incredibly grateful to Leavenworth County Health Department for giving us the opportunity to keep our Lansing USD 469 staff healthy and safe. Having the majority of our staff vaccinated is an important tool that will help keep our schools open. Lansing USD 469 will continue to maintain the same mitigation strategies, including proper mask wearing and maintaining six feet distance when possible, and we encourage our families to do so also.
Thank you for your continued support and flexibility.
Lansing USD 469 Superintendent of Schools
