Congratulations to Lansing High School Senior, Grayce Martin, for Winning Greater Kansas City ACE Mentor Design Competition!
Lansing High School senior, Grayce Martin, has taken first place in the 2020-2021 Greater Kansas City Design Competition through the ACE Mentor Program of Greater Kansas City. Lansing High School had four students compete this year in what is normally a team competition.
"Usually, the competition is a team design charrette, but due to COVID we did everything virtual, and the students submitted virtual display boards (MIRO is the program the mentors had them use)," said LHS Industrial Technology teacher, Mr. Glenn Rosario. Mr. Rosario had students participate in the competition for many years in his previous job at Winnetonka High School and brought the opportunity to Lansing. Our students connected with their mentors via Zoom every Friday for three months and presented their designs for the competition via Zoom.
According the acementor.org website, the ACE Mentor Program of Greater Kansas City is "an after-school program for high school students that gives them a hands-on introduction to careers in architecture, construction management and engineering." The Ace Mentor program was founded in 1994 and is "a federation of more than 70 affiliates (chapters), operating in 37 states and largely based in metropolitan areas, which deliver the program. A national office coordinates and assists affiliates."
Grayce received a $100 gift certificate for placing first in the competition and is now eligible for local ACE Scholarships for up to $2,000.
Wonder work Mr. Rosario and students and CONGRATULATIONS, Miss Martin!
