Positive Case of COVID19 at Lansing Middle School
Dear Lansing USD 469 Families,
Our district was notified today that a student at Lansing Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19.
Per our established protocol, we are coordinating our efforts with the Leavenworth County Health Department regarding who has been in close contact with the student who tested positive since school began this week. Any such student or staff member that has been in close contact with the student who has tested positive will be notified within 24 hours by Leavenworth County Health Department and be required by them to quarantine for 14 days. A person is considered a close contact of a case if they were within 6 feet of the case for 10 minutes or more or if they had exposure to secretions (for example, being coughed or sneezed on).
The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to the regular seasonal influenza and include fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. Some have reported additional symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat, nausea, lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Individuals who need medical care should call their medical provider to report their illness prior to seeking care at a clinic, physician’s office, or hospital. Parents of students exhibiting flu-like symptoms or staff exhibiting flu-like symptoms are asked to contact a school nurse, local health authorities or the Leavenworth County Health Department.
The custodial staff is working to thoroughly disinfect all desks, lockers, and workspaces where the student has been.
We are closely monitoring this situation and will provide you with updates as we know more. For more information about how our district will be handling COVID-19 cases in our district, visit: https://usd469.socs.net/vnews/display.v/ART/5f4d41794f3ad
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Dan Wessel, Superintendent of Schools
