Congratulations to Miss Kamila Smith, Lansing High School's second graduate from the class of 2020! (VIDEO)
Lansing High School Principal, Mr. Rob McKim, held an at-home graduation ceremony on Tuesday, May 26th for senior Kamila Smith. This is the second traveling graduation ceremony conducted by Mr. McKim, who felt it was important to give each senior the opportunity to walk across a stage in their cap and gown to receive their diploma.
Miss Smith will be leaving for Austin Peay State University in Tennessee on Wednesday, May 27th and therefore unable to attend the regular graduation ceremony this summer, so Lansing USD 469 leaders brought the ceremony to her home where family and friends could see her receive her diploma.
As reported in a previous story on the usd469 website, Mr. McKim led an effort to design and build a traveling stage that made this possible. A heartfelt thank you to the following people for making this important event a reality for our seniors:
- Principal Rob McKim for organizing the ceremony
- Superintendent Dan Wessel for helping gather supplies and build the stage
- Teachers Nick Flynn and Brian Malm for building the stage
- Chase Fletchall for lending the trailer
We wish Miss Smith the best of luck at Austin Peay State University, where she will be studying nursing!
Congratulations Miss Kamila Smith!
