March 19, 2020 7:00pm - An update from Superintendent Dan Wessel regarding COVID-19 (RESPONSE REQUESTED)
Lansing Families,
It was another productive day in Lansing Schools. Our District Leadership Team met to discuss the Continuous Learning Plan requirements released today by the State of Kansas.
Below are a few highlights:
- Our focus in the coming weeks is planning and implementing a plan for continuous learning (not distance or virtual learning)- to continue the learning they've already started this school year. The governor did not cancel school for the rest of the year- she closed the buildings to limit infection rates. School/learning is continuing for the rest of the school year- just in a different way/format.
- Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) will need to collaborate together to determine the essential learning targets (from our local curriculum documents) and standards to focus on the rest of the year, keeping in mind we need to bridge the gap from now to next school year/grade level/graduation. "Less is more" is important!
- Moving forward, pre-K-12 learning will be 2-pronged- asynchronous (different times) and synchronous (happening at the same time). In other words, students will have opportunities to participate in "live" lessons and students will receive prerecorded content to do at any time during the day. In addition, teachers will host "office hours" when students and/or parents can join Zoom and ask questions, get help, etc.
- Parents and students with limited to no access will also have the ability to receive packets of information for their student(s) to complete.
Meals -
We will be providing meals starting March 23, 2020 at the Lansing Intermediate School. We are still working the logistics of where we will be distributing meals in a Drive Through manner. More information to come tomorrow.

Medicine Pickup -
School Nurses will be available Monday from 4-6PM for medicine pickup at your child's school. Logistics on where to go will be available tomorrow afternoon.
Student Materials Pickup -
In yesterday's update, I mentioned that students would be able to pick up their materials at their schools. We are suspending that at this time for everything but medicine, as mentioned above. We decided the risks were not worth the safety of our community.
We are looking forward to the opportunities that await us in the months ahead.
