Fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Laurie Holden, uses Super Bowl as backdrop for interactive learning
On Friday, January 31st, students in Mrs. Laurie Holden's fourth grade class celebrated their KC Chiefs' trip to the Super Bowl by using football themes in their lessons. Mrs. Holden split the day into 1st and 2nd halves and started the morning by having a draft. Students were broken out into teams of 2 - 3 students who then competed in different football themed lessons.
The first half of the day featured math lessons including coordinate graphing to create an arrowhead and Mahomes jersey and multiplication football puzzles. The first team to get 100% received a homework pass. The second half of the day featured reading lessons such as a football word search and football facts and opinions worksheet.
Parents provided snacks and treats for the day and Mrs. Holden's mother and former Lansing High School Principal, Ms. Rita Greenamyre (aka "Grandma Rita"), provided pizza for lunch. Grandma Rita also volunteered in the room throughout the day, helping score sheets and keep everyone on task.
Scores were given throughout the day based on how well each team did on given assignments. Perfect scores received seven points, others received three points. At the end of the day, Mrs. Holden lined the teams up based on their total points, and each student received a football.
AWESOME JOB MRS. HOLDEN, GRANDMA RITA, STUDENTS, AND OUR KC CHIEFS!!!
