Third graders participate in Market Day on Friday, January 10th
Third grade students in Ms. Meyers, Ms. Trowbridge, Ms. Delich, and Ms. Burgess's classrooms participated in a Market Day on Friday, January 10th. Students have been studying Economics, Supply and Demand, Goods and services, and how businesses are run over the past month. They then developed their own business/storefronts with a partner and created goods to sell for the third grade pods.
"There were items ranging from pom pom pets, to bookmarks, hot dogs, hot chocolate, seashell keychains, posters and more," said Ms. Meyers. "Business partners had to devise a business plan, create an item that was marketable and appealing to sell, find a realistic price point to sell their item at, and then create a commercial, slogan, and product description. There were SO many interesting and creative items made by our third graders. You can tell the pride they took into creating their items as well as selling their items to staff and students. It was fun to see!"
Students have earned market day dollars in their classrooms by completing work on time, showing the LES PRIDE model, going above and beyond, helping others, and being a good citizen. Students could then use the money they earned within their classrooms to purchase items from their classmates during market day.
Ms. Meyers was happy with how the activity turned out. "It was pretty neat to watch students really take a vested interest in seeing all the products all students had to sell and decide what they wanted to purchase. This activity really introduced real life money managing strategies, business set-up, and economics resources to our students. It was a great hands on learning experience."
