Lansing School District has strong showing at NEKMEA District Band and Choir Festivals on Saturday, December 7th
The Lansing School District is honored to have three educators awarded for achievement by the North East Kansas Music Educators Association (NEKMEA). Mrs. Becky Jones was awarded the Middle School Level Band Director of the Year, Mr. Robert Schofer was named Middle School Choir Director of the Year, and Mr. Kerry Brungardt was named the Administrator of the Year! Each was given their award during the NEKMEA Band and Choir District Festivals in Topeka on Saturday, December 7th. Please join us in congratulating them for this prestigious honor! Lansing School District was also recognized for our strong music programs in North East Kansas.
The Lansing Middle School and Lansing High School honor choirs and honor bands also performed at the events and did an incredible job representing our district. For honor choir, Lansing School District had twenty-six students across the middle and high school levels. Students were nominated and chosen for their musicianship and ability to "lead by example."
For All District Band, there were a few different ensembles: Red and Blue 9-12 grade audition ensembles, 9-12 grade audition jazz band, 9th grade band nominated by band directors, and a 7/8 grade band nominated by band directors. "This year we had 26 and 1 alternate make the Red and Blue bands, 3 alternates in the jazz band, 5 in the 9th grade band, and 3 in the 7/8 grade band," said LHS Band Director, Mr. Aaron Edwards. "This is the largest representation Lansing has had at all-district band."
Lansing Middle School 8th grade band members, Darian Richards and Ryan Dennis, auditioned and were selected from over 400 students across the state to perform with the John Philip Sousa Kansas Junior Honor Band. They will be traveling to Lawrence in January for two days of rehearsal and then a concert. "Needless to say, we’re pretty proud over here at LMS," said Mrs. Becky Jones.
It's another great day to be a lion!
