Lansing High School Entrepreneurship students participate in "Market Day"
Students in Mr. Dustin Myers's Entrepreneurship class had an opportunity to run their own mini business during "Market Day" on Tuesday, November 19th and Wednesday, November 20th. The goal of Market Day is for the students to sell a certain food item to their classmates during the high school lunch periods and make as much profit as possible. The class spent two weeks working on the project - a lot of thought went into cost analysis and advertising to keep their costs low and their income high. "Most come into the class knowing this is coming, so they've already formulated an idea of what they are going to do for Market Day," said Mr. Myers.
Earlier this semester, the class broke out into teams and got to work on researching, strategizing, planning, and developing their business. Students worked with local food establishments to purchase food items to resell to their peers during the lunch periods. Some of the businesses chosen were Chick-fil-A, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Korean BBQ, Shrimp Rolls, Dino Chicken Nuggets, among some other dessert and drink options.
Mr. Dustin Myers was happy with his class's efforts and how the event turned out. "I enjoy watching the rollercoaster of emotions students go through in the Market Day process from excitement to frustration to ultimately overjoyed when their ideas turn into a pay day."
