Lansing Middle School Student selected as guest columnist for Leavenworth Times
Lansing Middle School eighth grader, Kara Wessel, has been selected as a guest columnist for The Leavenworth Times and will be writing regular pieces for our local paper.
Kara wrote her first article last school year after researching careers in her Advanced Studies class with Mr. Josh Yoakam. "Kara was interested in a career in counseling to start. She began by investigating what it would take to become a counselor and different settings they operate in," said Mr. Yoakam. "Kara is very concerned about other students' social emotional well being and wrote the piece as an extension of her research." As part of the project, she interviewed Lansing Middle School social worker, Mrs. Maggie Peterson. Once she had gathered her information, she wrote her first article titled, "Teach stress management in schools", which was picked up by Mark Rountree at Leavenworth Times and ran in the June 19, 2019 paper.
Mr. Rountree met with Kara in person this past August and asked her to continue as a guest columnist with regular articles to be submitted to the paper. You can find links to her first two articles below. Watch the usd469 website for updated articles to come!
