Lansing Elementary Celebrates Earth Day on April 22nd
In honor of Earth Day on April 22nd, Lansing Elementary students spent the day promoting awareness of Earth's environment and challenging themselves and others to start making a positive change towards taking care of our planet. The school day began with an assembly that featured an informative video filmed by Lansing High School students and presented by Lansing Elementary Student Council students:
The assembly ended with the student council students challenging each grade level to choose one thing they could do to make a positive change in our environment. Below is a list of some of the changes different classes did that day and are working on in the future:
- Mrs. Beahan's kindergarten class will reduce water use at bathroom breaks when washing hands.
- Mrs. Plessl's kindergarten class will recycle one toy in toy exchange and collect used/clean clothes to donate to Catholic Charities.
- Mrs. Baker's first grade class will pick up trash outside at school & home.
- Mrs. Leitsch's first grade class created bins for old markers to be recycled.
- Mrs. Stevenson third grade class will reuse cups as planters for veggies.
- The second grade teachers, students, and parents spent the afternoon working on a building beautification project. They built planters outside the second grade hallway, planted perennials, and revamped the main entrance of the elementary school.
