Lansing High School senior, Taylor Edwards, helps conduct first grade music program as part of mentorship program with Mr. Ryan Rothmeyer
Lansing High School senior, Taylor Edwards, made her debut as music conductor in the first grade music program at the Lansing District Auditorium. Taylor earned the opportunity to assist in the show through shadowing Mr. Ryan Rothmeyer at Lansing Elementary and Intermediate Schools as part of her Teaching as a Career class with Mrs. Maeve Bolin and Mr. Nick Flynn. Not only did Taylor get on stage and conduct the students during the program, but she helped the students backstage, getting them on and off for their parts during the show.
Through her mentorship with Mr. Rothmeyer, Taylor has also helped with the kindergarten through second grade music classes and fifth grade Loyal Lansingers. Mr. Rothmeyer has enjoyed having Taylor be a part of his classes. "Taylor has been doing a fantastic job here. I love the energy and enthusiasm she brings to the classroom environment. I think she will be a great asset to elementary music education in the future."
Not only does Taylor make a positive impact in Lansing Elementary and Intermediate Schools every day, she has certainly made a mark in Lansing High School as well. Taylor is the lead trombone in the Screaming Lions Jazz Band, President of the Young Voter's Committee, Trombone section leader, Concept leadership band representative, President of the National English Honor Society, and a member of National Honor Society and Thespian Honor Society. She has also put in an incredible number of volunteer hours through the Lansing Kayettes, Atchison United Methodist Church, Junior Thespians, being a One Event coordinator, and putting together a public forum at LHS for legislators. She also wrote and received a grant during the 2016-2017 school year to install water bottle filling stations in Lansing High School. Taylor has received numerous awards during her time at Lansing High School including Girl Scout Gold Award, National Young Women of Distinction nomination, Buck O’Neil Legacy Seat honoree, and Outstanding Soloist in Jazz Band.
Taylor plans to attend Baker University with a major in elementary education next fall. Her long term aspiration is to become a elementary school principal. Her incredible impact in the Lansing School District leaves no doubt in our minds that she will accomplish her goals!
Thank you for the positive impact you are making in our community, Taylor!
