Kindergarten students in Mrs. Flynn's class have been working on identifying and describing 3-D shapes. During the math unit, the students first used observational skills to determine what real everyday objects were also three dimensional shapes. After the students built knowledge of the shapes and their characteristics, they described the shapes by noticing curves and flat surfaces and determining whether or not each shape could roll or stack, and sorted them according to different attributes. To finish the unit, students practiced modeling 3-D shapes by building them with play-do and straws. Kindergarten student, Forrest Carlson said, "It was fun to use play-do for math and I learned to make a cube."
