Lansing High School senior, Daylan Williams, named KMBC Scholar Athlete of the Week!
Lansing's very own senior, Daylan Williams has been selected as KMBC's Scholar Athlete of the Week and will be featured in the Friday, March 22nd news casts at 6pm and 9pm. The award is given to students who are exceptional academically and athletically. It was no surprise that Daylan was chosen for the award due to countless accolades he has received throughout his Lansing High School career.
High School Guidance Counselor, Mr. Wes Cackler, couldn't agree more. "Daylan is an excellent young man! He is a great leader, very organized, and always makes sure to thank those that have helped him no matter how small the effort on their part."
As far as athletics in Lansing, Daylan has been on the boys' soccer, swim, and tennis teams and is currently captain of boys' swim and tennis. Academically Daylan is a rockstar, earning over a 4.0 grade point average while holding numerous positions of leadership throughout our district and in the JROTC program. As far as community service, Daylan has organized two annual USD469 district-wide charity drives, commanded Lansing Elementary School Junior Guard, was a Junior Leader at a Leavenworth DARE summer camp, and is a member of Student United Way. He is also a member of the National English Honor Society, National Honor Society, and National Society of High School Scholars. Daylan was recently featured on our website for volunteering during the Special Olympics swim clinic and for receiving the Best Officer Award at Topeka Model United Nations.
All of his hard work paid off this semester when Daylan found out he was appointed to The United States Military Academy at West Point. He received a call from Senator Moran earlier this semester and was delivered the wonderful news. He will be representing Lansing well and attending West Point next fall.
In addition to his achievements, Daylan has been working on a project for his Advanced Studies class titled Community Corners, which focuses on community interactions and relationships. He has been interviewing various community leaders in hopes of getting citizens and leaders more actively involved within the Leavenworth-Lansing area. Be sure to tune in to KMBC9 at 6pm and 9pm on March 22nd to see all of the amazing things Daylan has achieved.
Thank you for making Lansing proud, Daylan!
