Hello, I am Mrs. Schwinn, and I teach upper-level biology courses. This is my 24th year of teaching high school science, of which 20 have been here at Lansing High. I'm currently serving as the Science Department Chair.
I received my undergraduate degree in biology from Washburn University of Topeka, and my Master's degree from Emporia State University in Educational Administration.
My current teaching assignment includes junior/senior elective courses in the area of biology. Anatomy & Physiology is a college-bound course covering the systems of the human body. Advanced Biology is an accepted Board of Regents course also designed for students with special interest in a more in-depth study of genetics and cell biology. Entomology is a semester course designed as a more hands-on, general interest level course on insects.
I truly enjoy instructing and interacting with students at the secondary level. I eagerly accept the day to day challenge of bringing to life the "science of life". Any day that passes when I do not also learn from my students, however, is a day wasted.
In the spring, I assist with the high school track team by coaching the jumping events. Otherwise, I hurry home to my family. My husband, Joe, a native of Leavenworth, is a local landscaper and part-time farmer. We have two children: A fourth grader, Sarah Jo, age 9; and Zachary, age 7 and in the 2nd grade.
