Hi There! My name is Melissa O'Neal and I teach World History and Civics/Geography at Lansing High School. I have been teaching at LHS since January of 2007. Before working at Lansing I was a student teacher for Mr. Keith Andrews and Mr. Errol Logue here at Lansing during the fall of 2006. I am a 2006 graduate of Kansas State University. I am married to a wonderful man who is also becoming a teacher. He will graduate from the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) in May of 2009.

At LHS I am the freshmen girls basketball coach. I am also the freshmen class sponsor and the LEADERSHIP sponsor. I try to encourage my students to get involved in school activities by getting involved myself. I am very fond of Lansing High School and the Lansing community and look forward to adding and creating wonderful memories and experiences here.

My goal as a teacher is to encourage students to be open minded about history and other cultures. Students do not have to leave my classroom loving history, like I do, but they do need to leave my classroom having learned something. One goal as an educator is to influence students in a way that sticks with them. I want students to leave my classroom saying "Wow, I did not know that!" If I can impact one student I have done my job.

My husband (Shane) and I (June 2008)
