Welcome to my classroom web site. Currently, this site is in its infancy so bear with me as I navigate through the construction stages.
I want to start by introducing myself and giving a little bit of background information. My name is Brian Malm and for the 2008-2009 School year at Lansing High School I am teaching Biology 9, Biology I, and Physical Science. I received my formal education from Kansas State University where I received a BS in Animal Science/Pre-Veterinary Medicine, and a BS in Biological Science. I am currently in my last semester of study at the University of Kansas for my MS in Education Administration. In addition to my teaching duties, I also assist in coaching Wrestling and Track & Field at Lansing High School.
In my personal life, I enjoy playing all types of sports, cooking, reading, and even video games. I am married to my high school sweetheart and have three beautiful kids.
Biology
The link above will lead you to the material for sections of Biology.
Overview
Biology is the foundation course of study for students at Lansing High school. It is a year long course that covers, but is not limited to the following- Intro to Biology, Taxonomy, Evolution, Cytology, Cell Transport, Energy Processes and Cell Growth, Cell Reproduction, Genetics, Diversity and Behavior of Organisms, and Ecology.
A textbook is assigned to students with essential readings, but material will come from a variety of areas including multimedia, popular press, scientific journals, and hands on explorations. Students will have the opportunity to conduct laboratories and learn fundamental lab principles. Students will also have the opportunity to work in collaborative groups in town hall discussions over hot topics in biology.
Students in biology should expect to have readings almost every night with homework that accompanies the readings. Class participation is also a major part of biology; if a student participates actively in the class they dramatically increase the probability of success.
The grades students will receive will be made up from four areas- quizzes, tests, lab reports, and homework.

Physical Science
The link above will lead you to the material for sections of Physical Science.
Overview
Physical science is a foundation class. In this class we will discuss components of both chemistry and physics. This includes matter, gases, solutions, periodic table, atom structure, forces, energy, and simple machines. There are many ways that a student can earn points in Physical Science. Much of the work that is completed in this class is hands-on and will be have performance assessments for evaluation. Students should plan on an intensive amount of work done in class to complete projects and experiments. This does not mean that there will not be any homework, it simply means that if a student participates actively in the class they dramatically increase the probability of success
Similar to Biology, this class is comprised of four areas; homework, laboratories, quizzes, and tests.
