Education

VISION:
We envision a community where every citizen values and maximizes their own education and commits to supporting the highest quality of learning opportunities for all children, youth, and adults.

MISSION:
The Lansing School District’s mission is to provide all students with the opportunity to develop scholastic, technical, social, and lifelong learning skills essential for academic, occupational, and personal success as productive citizens.

Education in Lansing is a priority. The Lansing Unified School District #469 provides a full range of educational opportunities from kindergarten through high school. The Lansing public school system serves approximately 2,500 students. The State of Kansas has awarded the highest accreditation to all Lansing schools. Each school also maintains good standing with the North Central Association, which accredits schools in the mid-western United States. Over the last ten years, the District has had National Merit Scholars, appointees to the major military academies and a Commendable National Merit Scholar. Lansing Unified School District #469 (www.usd469.net) was ranked during the last decade number one in the State of Kansas, based on top test scores, by Ingram’s Magazine. The District has a staff of 141 teachers, 60 of whom hold advanced degrees. The 18-1 student to teacher ratio provides students with one-on-one learning experiences. The District occupies three campuses comprised of three buildings which are all climate controlled. The Lansing Elementary serves children in kindergarten through fifth grade, and the new buuilding officially opened in the fall of 2008. The Lansing Middle School, built in 1997, serves students in grades six through eight. The Lansing High School accommodates students in grades nine through twelve. In 1995, a technology building was added to provide an additional learning environment for students. A new auditorium and band room were added in the spring of 2008. The auditorium is the “showcase” for both the District and the City of Lansing events, with a capacity of over 900.
