Information
Lansing Middle School sits on a 26 acre site. It was
constructed in 1995 and was occupied in January of 1997.
The facility covers 120,000 sq. ft. and was built to
accommodate 750 students.
An exploratory pod with spaces for Art, Family and
Consumer Science, Technology and Computers is
located near the library. Other exploratory
courses of Vocal and Instrumental Music are taught in
large classrooms located beside the gymnasium. The
gym seats 750 and has a generous space for physical
education and athletics.
Special Education classrooms are located throughout
the building. Learning Disability and Gifted classes are
located in the grade level houses to facilitate inclusion.
Behavior Disorder and Mental Handicapped classes are
grouped together near the exploratory pod.
The student Commons serves as the lunchroom and
student gathering place. A stage is located in the
Commons with moveable walls allowing the stage to
be opened towards the Commons for small performances
and towards the gym for large assemblies.
A football field, all-weather track, soccer fields, and
recreational spaces are located on the campus. There
is paved parking for 140 vehicles. The bus drop off area
is located on the west side of the facility and parent pick
up areas are on the east side of the building near the football field.
Lansing Middle School is cabled for the latest in computer technology.
Staff and students have access to the Internet on over 140
computers throughout the school. Each classroom has a
television, phone and a computer. All building technology is
coordinated by an integrated communication system called TekNet.

AGENDA:
School Agendas are issued at the beginning of the school year for all LMS students. The book contains pages devoted to our school rules and policies. A daily calendar is included that give students plenty of room to record assignments and for parents or teachers to communicate messages to one another. If at anytime in the year a student misplaces or damages their AGENDA, they may purchase a new one from the Counseling Office. The cost is $6.00 while supplies last.
HOMEWORK:
If a student has to be absent for more than two days, parents may contact the school before 8:30am and request for work to be gathered for the days missed. Homework requests may be picked up after 3:15pm from the Front Office. Parents will be responsible for collecting books from the lockers. We also have HOMEWORKLIVE which is where teachers post their daily assignments for students to get if they have missed school.

BAND:
Students begin learning how to play a band instrument in the 6th grade. The 6th grade beginning band is separated into two classifications…woodwinds or brass & percussion. The 7th grade band and the 8th grade band have their class units for a full year.
LUNCH WITH YOUR CHILD:
You may come in and eat with your child, however, lunch, treats etc. from outside vendors may not be brought in or delivered for your student or any other students.
BREAKFAST & LUNCH
Breakfast is served from 7:40am till 8:10am and costs $.85. Lunches are served by grade level and cost $2.00 for a regular and $2.75 for supers (extra main entrée).
TRANSPORTATION:
Bussing is provided for students who live 2.5 miles or more away from their attending school. Paid Bussing may be available for students under 2.5 miles but varies from year to year as do the costs. For more information regarding bussing please contact the Bus Barn at 913-727-3884.
NOTIFICATION:
It is important that the school be notified by written note or phone call when your child is going to be absent or tardy. Please call by 8:30am.
INFORMATION CHANGES:
Please send a note in with your child for the Registrar with any address or phone number or legal documentation changes.
LOST AND FOUND
Lost and found is kept in the Commons Area. Items that are not claimed will go to Leavenworth Assistance Center.
WALKERS/BUS/CAR RIDERS
Bus Drop off and Pickup is on the West side of the building (Side w/ flag pole). Please refrain from parking in the circle drive during pick up and drop off times. Walkers and Car riders are to exit the East side of the building (Football field).
