I am pleased to announce that Lansing Middle School achieved the “Standard of Excellence” in all tested areas on the 2008 Kansas State Assessments.

Reading 6, 7, 8, School-Wide
Math 6, 7, 8, School-Wide
Science School-Wide
History/Govt. 6, 8, School-Wide

Congratulations to all of you. I would like to extend a special congratulation to the 6 grade math teachers, Mrs. Ross & Mrs. Martin. Their dedication and hard work paid off as the 6 grade was able to “get over the hump” and make the “Standard of Excellence” in math. They have been so close the past few years and I am thrilled their hard work was rewarded with this achievement. There are not very many middle schools in the state of Kansas that achieve to this level. You are a marvelous credit to your profession.

Fondly,
Kerry Nick Brungardt
Principal, Lansing Middle School

RED RIBBON WEEK

Red Ribbon Week has just ended. All Channel One classes were asked to decorate their doorways with a message about being drug free. Below is a slide show of some of the doorways that were decorated. Students also got to dress up each day of the week that symbolized being Drug free. One day was Sweats Day for "Don't sweat Drugs" and another day was Hat Day for "Put a Cap on drugs". Classes that showed the most spirit throughout the week earned Red Ribbon Bracelets. Thanks to everyone for their hard work and dedication.

The “Be the Change” committee is looking for students with leadership potential that can take Lansing Middle School from a very good school to a GREAT school. What is the “Be the Change” committee??? The “Be the Change” committee is a group that is made up of students, teachers and administrators that work to make Lansing Middle School a place where all students can feel good about themselves and most importantly safe. Safe from being bullied, harassed or made to feel worthless. The belief of the committee members is that change can happen one student at a time. Imagine a Lansing Middle School where all students are kind and all students are respected. The main focus of the “Be the Change” committee is to prepare for “Be the Change”, a nationally recognized program that has changed the environment of schools positively everywhere in the United States. “Be the Change” is in January of 2009. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please write an essay on the following topic: What could I do to make Lansing Middle School a better place.” The essay needs to be at least 200 words. The due date to turn the essays in is November 21, 2008. Please turn the essays in to Mrs. Carmichael or Mrs. Painton, secretaries in the office. Those students who were chosen to be on the committee last year do not need to reapply as you are already included in the committee. Good luck and please remember to be kind to each other.
