Way to go girls!

Congratulations to Stephen Long who made 1st Chair Euphonium again this year in the Kansas All-State Band.  This is actually Stephen’s 3rd year (students are eligible 10-12 grade) to participate in this ensemble.  10th grade he made the group on Trombone, and then last year and this year on Euphonium.

He will participate in this state-wide honor group at the end of February in Wichita at the KMEA State Music Convention.

band pictureWe had several students try out for the NE District KMEA 5A/6A honor band this past weekend which includes all of the KC area (Olathe, Blue Valley, Shawnee Mission) area along with Lawrence and Topeka areas.

Stephen Long earned 1st Chair Euphonium, and Matt Lee made 10th chair Trumpet. Jennifer Smisek (Oboe), and Nick Germonprez (Trumpet) made alternate spots for the band. This is Stephen’s 3rd year to participate in this group which is a distinct honor.

There were nearly 1000 students auditioning for about 100 spots, so this is a huge honor for these students and a great representation for our school! The students who perform in the District Band will get the opportunity to audition for the KS State Band in January.

Congratulations!
